We built Holler because we were tired of the endless "we should hang out sometime" messages that never turned into actual plans.
The Problem
You know the drill. Someone texts the group chat: "Anyone want to grab coffee?" Three hours later, you get a response. Then another hour for the second person. By the time everyone replies, the moment has passed, and nobody ends up hanging out.
Meanwhile, social media makes us feel more connected than ever, but we're actually spending less time together in person. We scroll through perfectly curated feeds instead of having real conversations. We "like" photos instead of making memories together.
We realized the problem wasn't that people don't want to hang out, it's that coordinating is exhausting. Group chats are chaotic. Calendar apps are overkill for spontaneous plans. Social media is performative, not personal.
The Solution
Holler strips away all the noise and gets back to basics: helping friends connect in real life, right now.
When you want to hang out, you send a "holler". Your friends get notified instantly. They can RSVP if they're interested, or ignore it if they're busy—no pressure, no guilt, no endless back-and-forth. That's it. That's the whole app.
No likes. No followers. No algorithmic feeds showing you what your high school acquaintance had for breakfast. Just you and your actual friends, making plans that actually happen.
Our Philosophy
Simple by Design
We believe apps should do one thing really well. Holler helps friends coordinate hangouts. That's it. No feature creep, no unnecessary complexity.
Actually Low-Pressure
If you're not feeling it, don't respond. No "seen" receipts, no read indicators, no guilt trips. Real friendships don't need performance metrics.
Privacy First
We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. We don't track your location. We build tools for humans, not products to monetize attention.
Real Connections
Social media optimizes for engagement. We optimize for actually hanging out with your friends. Online interactions are great, but they're not a substitute for real life.
About Waygate Technologies
Holler is built by Waygate Technologies, LLC, a small team based in Colorado that cares deeply about creating technology that improves real human connections rather than replacing them.
We're not a Silicon Valley startup chasing hockey-stick growth. We're not interested in building the next billion-user platform. We're just building useful tools for people who want to spend more time with their friends and less time staring at screens.
We fund our work through optional tips from users who love Holler, not by selling your attention to advertisers or your data to third parties. This keeps us focused on making the app better for you, not more addictive for investors.
The Name
Why "Holler"? Because it's casual, fun, and direct—just like the app itself. When you holler at someone, you're saying "hey, I'm thinking about doing something, want to join?" It's not formal. It's not complicated. It's just friends being friends.
Plus, we love the mental image of someone literally hollering out their window to see who's around. That's the energy we want to capture: spontaneous, local, and real.
What's Next
We're constantly working to make Holler better based on your feedback. Some things on our radar:
- Android app (coming soon!)
- Group management features
- More customization options
- Better notification controls
- Whatever you tell us you need
But we'll never lose sight of what makes Holler special: it's simple, it's pressure-free, and it helps friends actually hang out.
